TCNJ’s Commitment

The College’s Commitment to Water Conservation

Sustainable Design. The college agrees with the U.S. Green Building Council’s promotion of buildings that are environmentally responsible and are healthy places to live and work. We use sustainable design and building practices that provide LEED compliance. We believe that sustainable design can be economical, and that high performance design features can be accomplished within tight budgetary constraints through design innovation, and selection of sustainable design strategies that best serve individual project goals.

LEED Initiatives. The college builds and renovates using the following LEED water efficiency guidelines:

  • Employ strategies that in aggregate use 20% less water use baseline calculated for the building (not including irrigation) after meeting Energy Policy Act of 1992 fixture performance requirements, using waterless urinals where appropriate, and high efficiency fixtures, faucets, showers, and dual flush toilets.
  • Exceed the potable water use reduction by an additional 10% efficiency increase, where possible.
  • Design water efficient landscaping. No net increase of storm water runoff from existing to developed conditions; OR, if existing imperviousness is greater than 50%, implement a storm water management plan that results in a 25% decrease of storm water runoff.
